At the 2024 Cremona Violin conference, we were delighted to re-discover the work of master bowmaker, Matthias Penzel of Erlbach, Germany. Matthias is the inheritor of a family legacy of bowmakers, stretching back to the very early 20th Century when Emil Max Penzel first opened his workshop. Mathhias , four generations later, took on the business and currently shares the management with his father, Roland. Matthias earned his Championship in bowmaking in 2008 and this bow bears his brand: three stars Matthias R. Penzel with the initialed branded shield of his grandfather, Gerhard Penzel. This three-star bow is silver mounted with a three piece button of highly figured abalone. The ebony frog bears a Parisian eye, with highly figured pearl. The pernambuco stick is of round carve. Every Penzel bow is made with concern for the resources used: the Pernambuco has been legally registered iwth the German government (DE-CBD03) and the bow comes with a maker's certificate complete with a statement of materials used. Bow weight 61.7 g. $2750
