  • In the early part of the 20th century, many called The Playhouse Theatre of Rutland, Vermont one of the finest theatres in America. Very few theatres, reportedly, were more artistically designed or appointed. Built in 1912 & 1913 by George T. Chaffee, the theatre opened on January 16, 1914. The classical style exterior architecture of the building reflected the “City Beautiful” movement of the time, while the interior took on the look of a Victorian  opera house. The theatre provided seating for 1000 patrons in the orchestra, balcony, and 6 boxes flanking the proscenium arch.

The successful restoration of the Paramount Theatre was completed in February 2000 and an Opening Night Gala in March 2000 honored the artisans and contributors who made the historic project possible.

Once again, the Paramount Theatre has assumed its role as an arts, cultural, and educational leader, and as a significant and valuable community resource.

  • With Rachel Kish

Meets on Thursdays, 3:30 – 4:30 pm starting on February 15

Come join our Beginner String Ensemble! This ensemble is designed as an easy and fun first step toward building skills for playing in chamber music groups and an orchestra. It is open for upper and lower strings (violins, violas, and cellos), ages 8-12. Students will learn to feel the beat together, tune to each other, lead and follow within the group and work together toward a common goal. And it is a wonderful way to meet like-minded kids and make new friends!

Note: students should have at least one year of experience on their instrument, and may be asked to meet with our instructor prior to joining, to ensure best placement.

  • The Chamber Music Program is designed for middle and high school students (ages 11-17) as well as adult players. Previous experience of playing in the group is preferred but not mandatory to participate in the program. String, wind players and pianists are welcome!

Groups will be formed based on age and level of individual players, with 2-6 players in each group. While there is no audition required to participate, It is recommended that students have a private teacher they are currently working with.

Groups will meet weekly for one hour, beginning in late September and will run for 14 weeks. The time and day of the class will be determined based on group members’ availability. All chamber ensembles will perform at a culminating recital at the end of each semester.

Ensemble members will be working on one or two large pieces per semester, exploring classical music repertoire as well as popular music composition. They will learn how to feel the beat together, tune to each other, lead and follow, and work as a team to bring the piece to life. These groups are ideal for students who are comfortable on their instruments and ready to explore more repertoire and music making with others. Some of the best friendships are usually made while playing chamber music!

Current Music School students as well as newcomers are invited to inquire about ensemble opportunities through our online inquiry system, or by calling us at 603-228-1196.
